A ribcage of rusted steel, a faint humm, and a flickering florescence. A reflection stares back at you through the smeared chrome on the elevator doors. A copy of yourself stands within the doorway, you – you again, awaiting your own empathy.
You place your weight in a chair, the curve of its embrace comforts you, it assures you that it longs for this contact.
The walls were built to hold you, and you can’t find it within yourself to accept their embrace. Tiles shiver when you walk and the exit signs flutter like heart monitors.
Guilt overwhelms.
