LVL3 proudly presents Rules of Engagement, a three-person exhibition featuring Zoe Alameda (Los Angeles, CA), Morgan Buck (Portland, OR), and Sam Dybeck (Chicago, IL).
In the contemporary American climate, social technologies rule all. Persisted through the lens of a civilized capitalist order, the self is now realized through a certain size of small elemental boxes, a black mirror, a microchip of minerals containing a sequence of code to reorganize. A metalanguage appears through the birth of a new kind of organism, one that works in tandem with the now accessible Cold War of information, creating something new: the modern cyborg, ingrained by a patriarchal and militaristic tendency, managed by impulses, blurring the lines between true and false. Violence is now the only measurement to solve the inherently new issue of self-actualization, a violence that goes hand in hand in enforcing a system that keeps each piece in its place, each self in its box, each identity attached to the ever so comforting religion of consumption.
