Min Hin is a fashion designer from Korea and a recent graduate from the London College of Fashion. She has been interviewed in ID, Vogue, LA VIDA, V, The Valleys, and Revlon (TV).
Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do. Hello, I graduated in MA FDT Womenswear in the London College of Fashion, University of the Arts, London. At the moment I am working as an intern producing a fashion collection for S/S15.
If you had to explain your work or brand to a stranger, what would you say? Generally have inspired from such small-scale episodes happening in relationship create unexpected silhouettes and details. With them, I tell stories that are logical but non-objective, and as I tell stories based on not something unreliable but clues, my designs have stories, with which people can feel sympathy.
What materials do you use in your work and what is your process like? Basically I focus on making a volume silhouette. Almost all fabric I used for my collection was various bonded fabrics such as cotton jacquards, wool crepes and wool jerseys with neoplane, which is compressed polystyrene, creating new weight, character, mood.
How has living in London affected your practice? London is an amazing city. Especially, the fashion on the street from very modern to vintage. There is a variety of fashion styles and it always inspires me.
What’s your favorite thing about your city? Clubbing with electronic sound in London clubs.
What are you listening to right now? Monster mash – Crabcrops
What is your snack/beverage of choice when working in your studio? Ice americano with hazelnut syrup; I like the slipslop flavor.
What is your ideal studio situation/workspace? I’d like to work with nice people having similar taste to make a great collection. If there is a lovely cafe nearby the studio, that will really hit the spot.
If you hadn’t become a designer what do you think you’d be doing? Bodyguard; it is such an attractive job—wearing a black suit and I would like to be very athletic.
If you had one wish what would it be? I’d like to gain some experience within a team of designers and to further develop my skills.
