Water Cooler

8.14.21 - 9.26.21

LVL3 is proud to present Water Cooler, a two-person exhibition featuring work by KG (Chicago) & Rachel Youn (St. Louis).

KG’s balanced textiles coalesce into playful faces, and foam out into fucked up frothy little laces, their precarious crafted shapes shifting between surface and image. By incorporating found objects, the repetitive process becomes a means of reflection, meditating on personal narratives and the rigidity and dismissal of Craft. Youn automates intimacy, giving failed devices another chance to replicate human touch. Their swaying plants speak for themselves, with unnatural gestures born from the machinic hum of secondhand massagers.

KG’s thin threads feign as river foam & Youn’s green plastics play out as erratic vegetal forms, placing the man-made and divine in between a rock and a hard place. Plastic leaves, crocheted doilies, and shooting decoys float the audience into the awkward intimacy of the water cooler office space.
