Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do. Well my name is Tristan, I’m 19 years old, and I have a solo project called Diamond Cafe that blends the sounds of soul and R&B.
How has living in Victoria affected your music? Victoria has made me want to work hard at what I do because there’s really no scene for my type of music. But I’ve got a lot of support here so it’s slowly getting around.
If you had to explain your music to a stranger, what would you say? It’s like bathing in a cloud of honey on a very foggy night.
Who would you ideally like to collaborate with? Dev Hynes. He was the one who really got me inspired to make the music I create today.
Where do you plan to travel next? LA for sure!
How did your interest in music begin? Probably when I was 12. That’s when I started dancing as a Michael Jackson impersonator. And as the years went on I wanted to express myself more creatively and started making beats.
Most embarrassing moment on stage? None recently, but when I was performing as MJ I slipped and fell backwards while doing the moonwalk in front of like 400 people. It was a rush.
Do you have any guilty pleasures? Tell us about one. Any top 40 ballads from the 80s.
What do you do when you’re not working on music? Sleep and eat.
Can you share one of the best or worst reactions you have gotten as a result of your music? That my music has made their year.
