Hassla Books was founded in 2007 by David Schoerner. Born 1984, David Schoerner is an artist and publisher living in New York. Since founding Hassla Books, he has published over 30 books with a variety of artists. Recent exhibitions of his own work include BEPAD, Karma, Lowell Hotel, New York, NY, Rock Art and the X-Ray Style, Brighton Beach, NY, Wet, Cindy Rucker Gallery, New York, NY, and Ed Ruscha Books & Co., Gagosian Gallery, New York, NY.
Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do. I’m an artist and publisher living in New York City. In 2007, I started Hassla Books and have since worked with a variety of artists, including: Anne Collier, Marlo Pascual, Sam Falls, Lucas Blalock, Ryan Foerster, Dan McCarthy, Josh Brand, and Letha Wilson.
What are some recent, upcoming or current projects you are working on? A new book with Marlo Pascual. There will be a book launch/signing at Printed Matter on May 15, 6-8 pm.
If you were a drink what drink would you be? Modelo Especial or Gruner Veltliner.

How did your interest in your work begin? I like books by artists.
What’s your absolute favorite place in the city/the world to be? The ocean always feels good.
What are you reading right now? More Than You Wanted to Know About John Baldessari, Vol. 2.
What do you do when you’re not busy with Hassla? Make my own work.
Describe your current studio or workspace. It’s near the Navy Yard in Brooklyn and gets really nice light, especially in the morning. It’s a good place to make work, hang things up to look at, and store books.
Can you share one of the best or worst reactions you have gotten as a result of your work? People calling the books “zines”. They’re not zines.
