Etxeberria is a fashion line run by Roberto López Etxeberria. Roberto was born in Éibar, Gipuzkoa in 1976. After studying design and fashion at Felicidad Duce (Barcelona), he worked as assistant to fashion designer Sergei Povaguin from 2005 to 2008. In 2008, he created his own brand, Etxeberria, specializing in men’s fashion.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do. I’m Roberto Lopez Etxeberria. I am from Eibar, Guipúzcoa but I live in Barcelona. I’m a fashion designer. My company is called Etxeberria.

If you had to explain your work or brand to a stranger, what would you say? Etxeberria Menwear is a men’s fashion company whose approach to work is based on classic tailoring with a modern perspective. The combination of fabric and leather is another hallmark of our brand. By reviving the practice of good pattern designing, collaborating with professionals, whose work by hand and made-to-measure, rediscovering fabrics and textures, re-drawing the male profile and adapting the male classic cut to modern and close-fitting patterns and sizes. Etxeberria Menwear has sought to return to the roots of this tradition of expertise. The vision, a modern and stylish man, who appreciates hand-made tailoring with modern and personal touch. Tradition, creativity and craftsmanship are the three words that define Etxeberria Menwear.

What materials do you use in your work and what is your process like? Generically the use of English fabrics and knit and more specifically leather, exotic skin, and fur.

What are some recent, upcoming or current projects you are working on? I’m preparing the catwalks for my last collection, “PURA PIEL” in New York on Menswear and in Madrid on Womenswear.

What artists or designers are you interested in right now? Undercover, Juun.J, and Fendi.

What was the last collection you saw that stuck out to you? The last collection of Chanel Haute Couture.

What is your snack/beverage of choice when working in your studio? Beer and olives.

What are you listening to right now? Trentemoller, Apparat, and Warpaint.

Can you share one of the best or worst reactions you have gotten as a result of your work? The Fashion Critic, Eugenia de la Torriente, wrote in the newspaper, El País: Roberto Etxeberria is the best thing that happened to the men’s fashion for Spain in years.

How did your interest in art or fashion begin? The truth is I don’t know. I can’t give you a date or a fact to establish a baseline. I’ve always had the consciousness that interested me more than fashion, made ​​to dress well, and dress appropriately. The sober, austere, and impeccable elegance that you can recognize in men of the generation of my grandfather and even my father has always fascinated me, and this is probably the seed of my current job.
