Bijoux de Famille

January 5, 2015

Bijoux de Famille is a jewelry brand based in Paris.

Parisian Designer Julie Pasquet graduated from the renown Duperré Fashion School in Paris. She perfected her training at the prestigious Parisian fashion houses of Christian Lacroix and Barbara Bui, as well as at younger designer studios such as “Les Bijoux de Sophie” in Paris or Eddie Borgo in New York. She cultivated her love of color, noble materials, and the adornment and body connection with a double training in fashion design and textiles. A year of international travel following her training confirmed what she’d foreseen: her life would be devoted to creating jewelry. Everything is a pretext for it. She loves to play with anything which crosses her hand, endlessly transforming, ennobling and sublimating what surrounds her. Her motto: offsetting materials, techniques and subject matters. She loves poking fun with adornment, to create jewelry with what is not. Her obsession with noble materials such as leather, crystals, gold and silver leaf, is combined with her search for cutting edge techniques and her love for traditional craft. Delicately and daringly offset, her embroidered and printed creations become modern and audacious.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do. I am Julie, a Parisian designer. I created my company Bijoux De Famille two years ago, after I studied in a famous fashion school, Duperré in Paris. I took a year off to live in NY and traveled around India, and this how I decided to undertake this adventure.

What are some recent, upcoming or current projects you are working on? Well, we are now distributed at Colette in Paris! And, I am working on the new FW15/16 collection on which I am so inspired! And many others projects, I think 2015 will be exciting!

How did your interest in art or fashion begin? Since I was young, I’ve been in touch with a lot of art teachers, architects, painters in my family. Also my parents who have interest for art, museum, fashion… got me open minded and sensitive to colors, shapes, and fabrics. They fought my eyes to see beauty everywhere!

#1 fashion don’t? Do not be yourself..

If you had to explain your work or brand to a stranger, what would you say? First of all, it’s a family affair. What I mean is that I feel very lucky to be surrounded by very supportive relatives and friends. Then the motto of my work is to have fun with fashion through high end products made with love.

What materials do you use in your work and what is your process like? The material I mainly use is leather. The key is that it’s printed which is rather precursory I think. I like the idea to ennoble it with and ancestral technique as for the embroidery. All the metal parts and plating are made in Paris by famous factories and all finalized in our atelier.

What artists or designers are you interested in right now? Mmmh, I would say JPG as always, Mary Katrantzou for her crazy prints and Westwood for her subversive point of view!

What’s your favorite thing about your city? Haaa, Paris! I have always lived in this town; I fall in love again every time I come back. I like everything, the dirtiness, the crazy people, the small streets, the river Seine, to get lost and be impressed by everything around me at each corner.

What are your thoughts about the fashion scene in Paris? Well, for me Paris is a bit boring. I mean these Parisian girls are “super fashion”, very chic, but they need more fantasy I think.

What was the last collection you saw that stuck out to you? I always have a crush for the collection des métiers d’art de Chanel, so chic, so modern and full of details, the Paris Dallas was just perfect…

What is your beverage of choice when working in your studio? Coffee, coffee, coffee! And wine of course, I’m French…

What are you really excited about right now? My new collection! I am focused on smileys and food, don’t ask me why…

If you hadn’t become a designer what do you think you’d be doing? I wanted to be a cake decorator, not that far from my job right?!

[responsive imageid=’15466′ size1=’0′ size2=’600′ size3=’1000′]

What are you listening to right now? Old 80’s, 90’s, the music of my childhood, I do blind tests with my flatmate…

Can you share one of the best or worst reactions you have gotten as a result of your work? Well usually, people like or hate my work, but at least it’s a reaction and for me it’s enough.
