LVL3 presents a five-person group exhibition celebrating LVL3’s 12th anniversary as a volunteer artist-run space and online publication. For this exhibition, we invite artists to present work that responds to the material, conceptual, and cultural histories of linen, silk, and pearls. How estranged is luxury from its material, natural, and craft beginnings?
Linen…
Woven from the inner bark of flax plants, linen is distanced from its original use as tomb adornment. Prone to wrinkling, the fabric lends itself well to the uses and wear of daily movement. Dependable and luxurious.
Silk…
The strongest natural fiber is made by halting the silk moths’ metamorphosis, these are the fruits of their labors.
Pearls…
Hovering with the threat of infection, mother of pearl envelopes leftovers in layer upon layer of shimmering scab.
Opening: Saturday, March 12th, 6 – 10 pm!
Gallery hours are Sundays 1-4 pm and can also be made by appointment. Email team@lvl3official.com or call/text 312-469-0333 to reserve a time outside of gallery hours.
