Haring is a Belgium based electronic music producer.

I started making this project three years ago, I released three EP’s and the last one “Nowadays” on my own label Venja Venja Records the 09/15/2014.

What are some recent, upcoming or current projects you are working on? I’m currently touring in Belgium to promote “Nowadays”. I’ve just released a new track on the new Rebirth Records compilation, and I’m also working on a new EP.

How did your interest in music begin? I’ve always been passionate about music in general. When I was a kid I used to listen to classical music. When I grew up and became a teenager, I listened to a lot of rock, electronic (Massive Attack, Ginzhu (Belgian rock band), Aphex Twin, Chemical Brothers…) and I had a huge passion for movie soundtracks (for example: Lost In Translation). I started playing the drums, the guitar and the piano by myself at this time. One day I discovered Bonobo and my mind changed! Later, I became an adult and I went to a Bonobo gig in Brussels (2010). His support act was Gold Panda, but I didn’t know him yet… Gold Panda started his live set and that was a revolution for me… This is the day when I start thinking about my own electronic project which became “Haring” a year later. 2010 was a turning point in my life, I discovered a lot of other bands in the same kind of music (Baths, Tycho and many others) and my musical knowledge opened to lot of new stuff.

How has living in Brussels affected your music? Brussels is a special place… I don’t know how can I define it. Firstly, Brussels is a cosmopolitian city, you have many cultures here; I think it could have an influence on my mind and the way I make music. But Brussels is full of emotions and those emotions change with the weather (I know this is funny)… Sunny days are wonderful in Brussels but rainy days are so nostalgic! Those feelings inspired me a lot for sure!

If you had to explain your music to a stranger, what would you say? I’ll only tell him that it’s electronic music but I prefer to let him think whatever he wants. The best is to have his feedback and understand what he felt.

What kinds of music/what musicians are influencing your work right now? In fact, I listen to a lot of music and kinds of music. I really like to make playlists on Spotify with all the songs I love! Currently, I listen to a lot of minimal/electronica as Rone, Blondes or Dntel but I listen also to bands such as Populous, Clap! Clap! and for sure Belgian bands!

Do you get fan mail? What’s been the most exciting thing you have received from a fan? In fact yes, I sometimes receive e-mails from fans… The best that I received was a guy who told me he was a “HUGE FAN” and asked me to tell him how I make my music, which programs I use, etc… This is really crazy for me because I’m just a young producer who makes music in his bedroom!

What was the last show you went to that stuck out to you? Tycho!! I saw them in Brussels in October and it was just amazing! Their live set is so powerful and the visual is incredible!

What do you do when you’re not working on music? I’m doing a master degree in Cultural Management at the University in Brussels. I like the fact to have an other occupation beside Haring.

Can you share one of the best or worst reactions you have gotten as a result of your music? The best reaction was when I received an e-mail from Dior Paris. They told me that they loved my song “Us” and they wanted to use it in one of their advertisements.
